Curriculum Statement
At Downs Infants we follow the National Curriculum as set out in 2014.
For PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education), which is a non-statutory subject, we follow the curriculum developed by Brighton and Hove which can be found here:
We follow the Brighton and Hove agreed syllabus for the teaching of RE, which is agreed locally to reflect the religious profile of our community. This is updated regularly.
Since the appointment of our new Headteacher in September 2017, we are in the process of reviewing our curriculum. In particular, we are mindful of research which suggests that for the most vulnerable pupils there has been a narrowing of the curriculum, and we remain absolutely committed to the principle of a broad, balanced and creative curriculum for all our children. A new curriculum map for all year groups will be published Autumn 2018.
We assess children in all National Curriculum subjects and keep records of their attainment and progress so that we can ensure that they achieve their potential in all areas.
We are currently reviewing our reporting arrangements so that these assessments are communicated more regularly with parents throughout the year, rather than just in the traditional end of year report. Further information on this will be sent to parents in Autumn 2017.
